Lebara to launch services over Mobily’s network in 1Q14

Karl Michael Henneking, chief corporate strategy and marketing officer of Saudi Arabian mobile operator Etihad Etisalat (Mobily), has announced that the company will start leasing its mobile phone network to a new mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), London-based Jawraa Group (Lebara), allowing it to launch services in the country by end-March 2014.

Virgin Mobile signs MVNO agreement with Telefonica in Brazil and Mexico

MVNO Virgin Mobile has signed an agreement with Telefonica’s Brazilian unit Vivo and Mexican unit Movistar to be the infrastructure provider of its operations. In Brazil, Virgin Mobile will now have to request an MVNO license from the telecoms regulator Anatel.  Virgin Mobile has not provided launch dates details. Malaysia based MVNO Tune Talk plans to launch services in the ASEAN region as a part of its 5-year strategy, according to reports. Tune Talk is planning launch services in Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines – Thailand and Indonesia launches are expected in 1Q14 while the Philippines launch is expected by 2H14.

Chilean operator VTR has stopped using its mobile brand VTR Movil and has converted into a full MVNO. VTR started operations in 2012 with a hybrid model that combined the use of its own network and a roaming agreement with Movistar.
